Greetings to all,

Welcome to the People’s Imperial Confederation blog once more. It’s been lovely talking to many of you on Discord recently, I hope you’ve all had a lovely start to summer/winter. It’s been a couple of months since the beginning of PIC’s indefinite hiatus, an unexpected but necessary decision that has provided an opportunity for reflection. To be transparent, no one within the Confederation knew what its future would look like at the time of the hiatus announcement. Though I had mentioned a meeting scheduled for the end of May, plans beyond that were non-existent. Several matters required consideration before approving a revival, but I can assure you today that the Confederation will be returning.

For The People, Always

The People’s Imperial Confederation will always be welcome to all walks of life. It sometimes felt redundant or even performative to me when mentioning values or principles previously, but witnessing the state of the world at the moment has only highlighted to me the importance of reiterating what we stand for as a community. Human beings in countries across the world have experienced the degradation of their rights and liberties. A resurgent plague of right-wing conservative populism has infected societies globally, from many parts of Europe and Asia to even the United States of America. Women, ethnic/religious minorities and LGBTQ+ individuals receive much of the harm, but people of ALL backgrounds are becoming worse off regardless of acceptance or status.

As I’ve grow older it seems as though many are giving up in upholding values of acceptance, equity, and individual liberty. I mean this in more than just the realm of politics. I grew up while the internet was still quite young, as a result my experiences in chatrooms of old Club Penguin armies shaped who I am today considerably. I was sure that I was transgender before my teenage years, but in most army chats LGBT issues remained punchlines to jokes at best. Considering the inconsistent moderation of these groups, it was quite common to be exposed to homophobic, transphobic or racist behaviour. Even for those who weren’t some kind of societal minority, those spaces were mostly quite unsafe and regularly contained graphic content (thank you for sending me that uncensored ISIS execution video Spi).

Though Discord is much more robust when enforcing their terms of service, trends towards authoritarianism and fascism threaten to bring the army community back to a state in which young people are less safe or free to express themselves. I’m much older now and I have priorities, I can’t continue leading armies as I move along in my twenties. However, I am more convinced than ever that there needs to be forces for good in the world of today, no matter how large or small those forces may be. Of course the People’s Imperial Confederation will always have a momentous legacy, with an extensive history and rich culture. Beyond this, however, PIC was truly a Confederation FOR THE PEOPLE, it always has been and will continue to be. This is why I today officially announce the return of this great army.

I, Sidie9, hereby re-establish the Congress of Soviets as the governing body of the People’s Imperial Confederation. The formal constitution of the army is now due for review and amendments.

Congress members are not regarded as enlisted in the army.
All previous members of Congress may retain their position unless otherwise requested or stated.
